As stated in the Fall Newsletter, the department plans to hire a new tenure-track Professor effective Fall, 2002. The first candidate to visit our campus will be Dr. Andrew Payne. You can meet Dr. Payne on Friday, February 1, 2002. He will present a lecture on "The Goal of the Ascent in Plato's Symposium." His presentation will begin at 2:40 P.M. in the Dean's conference room. (Enter through UH-237) Anyone interested in philosophy is invited to attend the lecture. Philosophy majors are invited to have dinner with Dr. Payne on Saturday, February 2nd, at 6:00 P.M., at Prof. Buroker's home in Redlands.
The second candidate to visit will be Dr. Desheng Zong. Dr. Zong will discuss "From Virtuous Action to Intentional Action" during a Symposium to be held on Friday, February 8, 2002, at 2:40 P.M. Everyone is invited to attend the lecture which will take place in the Dean's Conference Room (Enter by way of UH-237).
The third and fourth candidates are Drs. Eunshil Bae and John Sisko. Dr. Bae's visit is scheduled for February 15th. Philosophy Department students and faculty are invited to lunch with Dr. Bae at Noon in the Oak Room. At 2:40 P.M. Dr. Bae will present a lecture titled "Are Plato's Forms Stuffs?" All members of the campus community are invited to attend the Symposium. The Symposium will be held in the Dean's Conference Room.
Dr. John Sisko will visit the campus on February 22nd. Department faculty and students may lunch with Dr. Sisko at Noon (tentatively in the Oak Room). Dr. Sisko's Symposium will address "Worlds within Worlds within the One: Anaxagoras' Parmenidean Cosmology." Everyone is invited to meet in the Dean's Conference room at 2:40 P.M.
The Department welcomed a new Administrative Support Coordinator last Fall, Rachel Siordia. Before coming to the CSUSB campus in 1998, Rachel held a number of positions including Executive Assistant to the City Manager of Colton, and Executive Assistant to the CEO of the Board of Directors of St. Bernadine's Hospital. In addition, she was a legal secretary for thirteen years. Rachel says that she feels lucky to be working in the Philosophy Department and that she "loves working with the Students."
We also have a new Student Assistant, Amanda Treon. Welcome Amanda.

Beverly Gallo was elected to the Faculty Senate in December, 2001.
Lou Reich's paper, "On Mystic Experience: Is the Argument from Unanimity Possible?", is scheduled for publication in the Proceedings of the International Society for Philosophy and Psychotherapy (SUNY).
Kendrick Davis is studying Philosophy at the University of Oklahoma.
Felipe Leon is working toward a Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of California, Riverside.
Donovan Rinker is attending Harvard Law School.
Brett Sealander is working toward a M.A. in Philosophy at California State University, Los Angeles.
